Memories: Alexa recording her violin part for "As I Walk Amongst The Sick" from Mind Cemeteries. Very typical on how we "orchestrate" in a natural way: She's not faded in, instead she starts just very quiet ("quasi unmerklich") with the same notes as the guitar feedback, does a crescendo, and then finally slams it down ;)

I've always fought against to regard of anything modern (be it atonality/dissonant writing/...) as something that is avoidance, negation or even denial of tradition. Schoenberg made a wonderful remark about that: "it is on a par with calling flying 'the art of not falling', or swimming 'the art of not drowning.'"

We don't "avoid" traditional elements (whatever they may be) in music. We just prefer to actually like all of our riffs.

"There is no reason for finding dissonance ugly except that we are accustomed to believing it so. Two discordant notes are merely a little closer together than two consonant notes. I believe that the human ear can be trained to dissonance and find it beautiful, and then the vocabulary of music will be doubled, won’t it?" (Arnold Schoenberg) https://comaclustervoid.bandcamp.com

"A woman went around a show, grumbling bitterly all the time. I approached her and asked why she bothered to come and look at paintings that seemed so much to displease her. She replied that she wished to learn what modern art was all about. I warned her how dangerous it was to do so, as she might become an addict." (Peggy Guggenheim)
